⚠️ We advise all players to exercise extreme caution with any Event Organizer who requests personal information to fulfill a prize. Players participate in events with real prizes at their own risk.
Overview
Rules pertaining to real prizes for unofficial game events are found below. In this article:
- "Entertainer" means someone who is using PokeMMO as an entertainment medium for their audience. For example: Streamers and Influencers on social media.
- "Unofficial Game Event" means any event which is not created or supported by PokeMMO.
- "Event Organizer" means someone who has created an unofficial event.
- "Real Prize" means any prize which is given by an event organizer which does not exist within PokeMMO.
Real Prizes in Unofficial Game Events
✅ Event Organizers are allowed to create a game event with real prizes, as long as they disclose the source of the prize.
- For example: If an Entertainer is working with a Brand to create a game event ("Branded Event") with a physical prize sponsored by that Brand, they must disclose that the Brand is the source of the prize.
✅ Event Organizers are allowed to restrict the participants of an event with real prizes. Common reasons may include:
- For logistical reasons, so the event organizer does not promise a prize they can not fulfill to an international player;
- For monetization reasons, such as if an Entertainer wants to reward a certain tier of their subscribers;
- To reward players who meet a certain gameplay metric, such as those who placed within the Top 50 of a monthly scoreboard.
❌ Event Organizers are not allowed to collect any fee ("buy-in"), real money or otherwise, for entering an event with a real prize. We consider this to be real money trading.
❌ Do not imply or state that PokeMMO is the source of the real prize. Event Organizers must clearly state where the real prize is from.
❌ If fulfilling a prize to a player requires personally identifiable information, such as a physical shipping address, the Event Organizer MUST disclose this to a player before they sign up.
Acceptable Prizes
Event Organizers are not allowed to provide any prize which would otherwise violate the Code of Conduct.
This set of rules is primarily intended to allow:
- ✅ Cash prizes
- ✅ Physical trophies
- ✅ Branded coupons or rewards for physical goods
Examples of items which are not allowed include:
- ❌ PokeMMO game accounts or usernames
- ❌ Game accounts, currencies, or items for other games
- ❌ Illegal physical goods, like drugs
- ❌ Goods which show hateful imagery
- ❌ Sexually explicit material
The Event Organizer accepts all liability for fulfilling a prize to a player. If they fail to provide a prize to a player, we may investigate the event for deceptive practices.
Information for Event Organizers
- PokeMMO will not assist you with player signup restrictions. PokeMMO will not disclose any information about players to assist you with an event, unless it's been created in partnership with us. If you want to impose a restriction on participants, you should vet participants before the event using an external service.
- If you choose to offer prizes to international players, be mindful of what can cross international boundaries. For physical goods, unexpected costs can be incurred by players who are not within the prize distributor's host country, such as import taxes.
- PokeMMO does not offer logistical support for prize distribution in events with real prizes. Do not imply to a player that, if something goes wrong, PokeMMO will fix the problem.
General Rule Advisories
- PokeMMO does not permit advertising in-game or through our websites, like the Forums, without written permission. Do not promote advertisers in our websites or game without our permission.
- Do not offer a prize to a player which you can not fulfill. This may be regarded as a deceptive trading practice.
- In an event is deemed to be fraudulent by a Game Master, we may shut down an event and close accounts of organizers or participants. Events may be considered fraudulent in some situations like organized match manipulation or overly restrictive participant pools.
