Steam Deck Setup

PokeMMO for Steam Deck

PokeMMO's support for Steam Deck is limited, but the game is playable on the platform. To install it, please follow the instructions below.

Enter Desktop Mode

If you are currently in Gaming Mode on Steam OS, you'll need to enter Desktop Mode to install the game.

To enter Desktop Mode:

  • Start your Steam Deck
  • Press the STEAM button
  • Select Power
  • Select Switch to Desktop

Install from Flathub

PokeMMO is available via Flathub. Flathub is a distribution network for applications on Linux.

To install PokeMMO:

  • Open Discover and search for PokeMMO

or

  • Visit Flathub by clicking the button above
  • Press Install on Flathub and download the flatpakref file
  • Using Discover, open the flatpakref file and press Install

After installing, PokeMMO & PokeMMO Settings will be visible in the Games category of your Desktop Mode launch menu.

Setting up PokeMMO

Step 1: Open PokeMMO for the first time while still in Desktop Mode through the applications menu. This will automatically download the game client and set up its files.

Step 2: While in Desktop Mode, install compatible ROM files and switch to the desired theme.

Step 3: Add PokeMMO to Steam:

  • Open the Application Menu, navigate to Games, and right-click PokeMMO (Button L2, left trigger by default)
  • Select "Add to Steam"

Step 4: PokeMMO does not currently provide an official Steam OS controller profile. To install a Steam Controller Community Profile:

  • Open Steam, navigate to the PokeMMO entry, and navigate to Controller settings
  • Select the Community Profiles tab, and choose a Controller mapping from there

Note: You must launch PokeMMO through Steam to apply your controller configuration. Controllers will not work if the game is started through the Desktop Mode application menu

Troubleshooting and Managing game files

The PokeMMO Settings application is a companion app to manage game files and client settings. It can:

  • Manage maximum memory used by the program
  • Repair the game client if it becomes broken
  • Help you navigate to the game client folders after installation
  • Automatically update the game when new updates become available

To use PokeMMO Settings, enter Desktop Mode and open the application under the Games section of your application menu.

Known issues

  • In Desktop Mode, Steam OS's keyboard does not show correctly if the game is set to Fullscreen. Use Borderless Windowed mode instead
  • Wayland is not supported on Steam OS at this time. Do not select the Wayland compositor option in the settings menu
  • Functions which require an external browser, such as Gift Shop Reward Points purchasing, do not work in Gaming Mode. Switch to Desktop Mode to use them
